TL;DR. Both Miley Cyrus Hollywood Bowl nights, Friday 16 and Sunday 18 October, sold out at the general sale on 10 September, after presales that drew nearly 1.5 million people for around 35,000 seats. Sold out is not the end of it: tickets come back as plans change, they reappear on the official resale site with no announcement, and the people who get them are the ones who hear first. How the sale went
- Tuesday 8 September: the Amex presale. The artist's team put the queue at nearly 1.5 million.
- Wednesday 9 September: Spotify Reserved, a held-back allocation for eligible US Premium top fans, two tickets each.
- Thursday 10 September, 10am PT: general sale on Ticketmaster. Four tickets per order, $93.15 to $1,000 including fees, and not much of anything by the afternoon.
The Hollywood Bowl holds around 17,500. Two nights of the only Miley Cyrus shows anywhere, the first in four years, were never going to be enough, and the numbers say so.
Why tickets will still come back
A ticket bought on 10 September for 16 October is five weeks of plans staying intact. Flights, hotels, a Friday off work, a friend who said yes in the group chat. Some of that falls through, and when it does the ticket is listed for resale. Nobody announces it; the listing simply appears, and it goes to whoever is looking at that moment. The pattern for these two nights in particular, and why the Sunday is likely to give back more than the Friday, is in when the Hollywood Bowl tickets will get resold.
What a return will cost
This is a US show, and US resale is not UK resale. On the official site, a resale listing is priced by the seller unless the artist has opted into a capped exchange, and nothing in this announcement says that has happened. On sale day, secondary marketplaces were already listing the Friday from about $493 to more than $4,000, against an original range of $93.15 to $1,000 including fees (TicketNews). A listing can be above the original price and still be an official, valid ticket. Write down the original range, $93.15 to $1,000 including fees, decide your ceiling now, and set it as a price cap in your alert so you only hear about listings under it.
Where to buy, and where not to
- The official site or the Hollywood Bowl box office. The only places a ticket is a ticket.
- Mobile tickets only. Entry is through the Ticketmaster app, and the barcode is released about 48 hours before the show. A barcode screenshot from a stranger today is not a ticket.
- Never bank transfer, never gift cards, never a DM. A seller who cannot transfer the ticket through the official site does not have one to sell.
What being ready looks like
- Stay logged in. A return that survives thirty seconds is a good one. A password reset takes longer than that.
- Pick your night, or both. If you would take either, keep both on and take the first one that appears.
- Decide your ceiling before show week. The last few days are when the temptation to overpay is strongest. Decide the number while you are calm.
